Introducing… the Director

Over the next few days I’ll be introducing the different members of the creative team for The Boy on the Swing. If you’re interested in more updates check out the facebook event where all the latest casting news can be found.

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce Joe Murphy, Artistic Director of nabokov, who’ll be taking the directorial helm. As we found out during our exciting casting session yesterday (more news soon), that means he is definitely in charge.

Joe is the Artistic Director of nabokov.

Theatre as Director includes: Bunny (Edinburgh Fringe First 2010/UK Tour); The Right Thing (Liverpool Everyman/Election Special); New short plays by Jack Thorne, James Graham, Joel Horwood and Penelope Skinner (The Bush); Service, Building Site (Arcola/Miniaturists); After, Come on Over (Tristan Bates); The Things That Never Grew in the Garden (Hampstead Start Night); Normal (Cockpit); Julius Caesar, Esme-Tales (Edinburgh Fringe); South Pacific (Northcott).

Theatre as Associate Director includes: Punk Rock (Lyric Hammersmith and tour); The Laws of War (The Royal Court).

Theatre as Assistant Director includes: The Priory (The Royal Court); 2nd May 1997 (The Bush); Fixer (High Tide Festival); Purgatory (Arcola); Girls and Dolls.

Joe is the Resident Director on Ghost Stories (Duke of York’s Theatre, West End).

You’ll be hearing a lot more from Joe over the next few weeks as we move from casting into rehearsals, but in the meantime, book your tickets to see Joe’s work in action here or call the Arcola box office on 02075031646.

The Boy on the Swing

I’m pleased to announce that I am now actually producing a play. Keep coming back for more news and info on how the production process is going.

In the meantime, check out the facebook group or see below for more details:

“Hello?
Hello?
Is this God?”

Earl is a regular guy. He’s got a job, he’s got friends, he’s not alone. He is, however, lost. Not geographically; spiritually. So when a bizarre business card seems to offer answers, he’s going to grab them. But is a phone call really all it takes?

This sharp new play questions the need for religion in the 21st century.

The London premiere of “The Boy on the Swing” is directed by Fringe First 2010 winner Joe Murphy (Artistic Director of nabokov).
